This acute (sometimes developing into chronic) infection of the uterus and Fallopian tubes can recur over months for a period of several years. Serious damage to the female reproductive system may result. PID is often caused by untreated infections and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as Chlamydia. Intrauterine devices (IUDs) may also precipitate the problem.
This is often a case where antibiotics are the best initial treatment. These would usually be pharmaceuticals but goldenseal root and Coptis can also be very beneficial here. A whole food diet and proper balance of body flora are also important. After the acute stage is over, we usually start with a 12 day D-Tox Diet to cleanse the digestive tract and normalize the liver.
Nutritional Supplements: Beta-carotene (20,000 – 50,000 IU, twice daily), B complex (1 tablet, twice daily), Vitamin C (up to 10 g throughout the day), Vitamin E (800 IU daily).
