Arthritis is basically an inflammation of the joints and presents itself in a variety of ways, the two most common being rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. The former attacks the synovial membranes surrounding the lubricating fluid in the joints and creates stiffness, swelling and often crippling pain. The latter, known as degenerative joint disease, is related to the wear and tear of aging and involves deterioration of the cartilage ends of the bones. This second type usually involves much less pain and little or no swelling.

Gout, which occurs more often in overweight people and those who indulge regularly in rich foods and alcohol, is also in the ‘arthritis family’. It usually occurs in the smaller joints of the feet and hands, generally affecting the big toe. It is much more common in men than women. Deposits of crystallized uric acid salt in the joint cause swelling, redness, and a sensation of heat and extreme pain.

Recommended Action

Drink steam-distilled water daily and take a generous portion of herbs capable of dissolving organic deposits of calcium and mineral salts responsible for the symptoms of arthritis. Anchovies, sardines, beef and internal organs of animals (such as kidneys and liver) are all rich in purine (a substance involved in the production of uric acid) and should be avoided by anyone with gouty arthritis. Follow a good natural diet and use periodic Juice Fasting or Cleansing Diets (see Diet Plans) to help this condition improve.

Single Herbs: Cat’s Claw, Chaparral, Devil’s Claw, Devil’s Club, Hydrangea, Irish Moss, Yucca (for dissolving inorganic deposits); Alfalfa, Dandelion root, Comfrey, Licorice root, Bee Pollen (organic nutrients); Saffron (for dissolving uric salts in Gout); Aloe Vera gel or juice, Red Clover, Dulse; Curcumin (anti-inflammatory).

Combinations: R-Throherb, Bone, Flesh and Cartilage (for dissolving inorganic deposits); NervaHerb, Trauma Ointment (pain relief); CleansaHerb, LBT-3 (cleanser and eliminator).

Nutritional Supplements: Vitamin A, B complex with B12, Vitamin B6, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Calcium, Magnesium, Trace Minerals, Glucosamine sulfate (GLS, 500 – 1000 mg; twice daily), Methylsuffonylmethane (MSM, 500 – 1000 mg; twice daily), Cod or Halibut Liver Oil and Essential Fatty Acids.
