If one or more of the endocrine glands (pineal, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, adrenal or reproductive) becomes over or underactive, hormone imbalances result. Hormones are the chemical regulators of the body’s systems and are produced by the aforementioned glands. Major body functions become upset when any one of the above glands produce too much or too little of a particular hormone in relation to others. Often the results can be disastrous.
Avoid all refined carbohydrates as these have a tendency to throw the glandular machinery off balance. For herbal hormone supplements, use those in the following paragraphs.
Single Herbs: Chlorella, Alfalfa (pituitary); Licorice root, Siberian Ginseng (adrenals); Rhodiola, Cedar Berries or Devil’s Club root (pancreas); Dulse, Kelp (thyroid); Mullein (all glands); Ginseng, Sarsaparilla (male); Dong Quai, Blessed Thistle, Black Cohosh or Vitex (female).
Nutritional Supplements: Vitamin A, B complex, Vitamin B6 (75 mg daily), Zinc, Calcium, Magnesium.
