Headaches are most frequently caused by emotional stress or nervous tension but are also symptoms of allergies, poor circulation, digestive disturbance, poor ventilation or improper respiration, anaemia, hypoglycemia, general infection or head injury. Chronic constipation is one of the most common causes of recurring headaches. Migraine headaches (see section on Migraines), which are usually accompanied by nausea, vomiting and visual disturbance, result from unusual constriction of the arteries to the brain, leading to a kind of cellular starvation (ischemia). The dilation of the blood vessels causes the typical throbbing pain.
Realize that headaches indicate a deeper problem and while anodyne and sedative herbs can help to relax tense nerves and relieve pain, they do not solve the problem. Use the LBT-3 to relieve the bowels if constipation is present (enemas should be reserved for emergencies). If the stomach is the source of the problem, use an emetic to empty it. The most effective solution to any headache is rest … and hops, peppermint and chamomile teas will usually induce a restful sleep.
